Wait, how can I slow down my DH bike? It's too scary. Oh! Just put some fat tires on it! Hey wait, my DH bike is too slow now. How can I speed it up? Easy! Just put an electric motor on it!

Why does everyone have to hate on electric bikes before they have even made a place for themselves? Giving what could be awesome such an early grave. I would understand it in the comment section but really? The way I see it, electric bikes is how Dh bikes are going to get way cheaper. Plus hundred of other benefits. Yes It COULD possibly mess up trail access, but hey if electric bikers actually follow the laws, they won't. And the more people that ride mtb/ebike/mx means more lobbying power, which is really the crux of the issue. or government parks or whatever needs to be in place to make it sustainable. Hell even an old abandoned mine could make a race venue for this. Electric bikes could create an awesome connector sport between mx and mtb, or eventually, you could chill and ride with a bunch of road bike buddies in the AM ( all while using a healthy amount of human energy), and then when you get bored you could peal off and go do some laps on an MX or DH or XC track. or.. instead of racing enduro for a weekend, you could race over much bigger climbs and over longer periods of time. This may or may not create a massive industry that would sell more products for everyone. Gear companies, tires, races, more urban awareness of bike legislation, etc.

Trails that are not designated for motorized vehicles will not allow e-bikes.

I feel for the unlucky souls who buy these things, then think they can actually ride them on multiuse trails. They will be able to ride roads and OHV parks only. The marketing and sales of the bike will mention none of that.

Absolutely correct. What do you think the odds are of someone who just dropped upwards of $6K on an e-bike just to be "informed" later that they are not allowed to ride it on non-motorized trails actually following that rule? My gut tells me they will continue to ride it wherever they please and then play the "oh, I didn't know" or "well, it has pedals" cards before willingly restricting their pricey new purchase to motorized-only trails. In the meantime, the many anti-bike groups will thank these new NFG e-bike users for the free propaganda content; "bikes now come with motors so riders can go even faster and do even more damage to trails. See! Bikes should be grouped with motos for trail designation!"

First of all, we are thinking America, and there are many other countries that would have less issues with it. Second, yes, it will be tempting but they are coming no matter what, so we might as well start trying to get people to use them at ohv parks , and ALL BLM land, and forest service and most of environmentally conscious canada...Im just saying there is a huge place for them if used correctly. which is actually a pretty decent chunk. I mean if motocross bikes can ride it then why wouldnt you want an electric bike there too. It doesnt necesarily have to get lumped into MTB and it could give the noise making MX fossil fuel burning guys (who all us DH ers kinda look up too) a way better name (or something to do when gas gets too pricey). if we are going to say they are getting lumped with anything its going to be other motorized vehicles. Its all about how we spin it, rather than letting anti-bike people spin it. I mean rain causes more erosion on trails than anything, If the same people that ride volunteered to fix hiking biking and moto trails we could do more positive than negative. Yes people in SF and around Boulder and the east coast will have issues, but hey its already here ( and it has been around for a while actually), the question now is how to deal with it.
