One of E13 reps was actually nice enough to reply to my comment on PB when I complained about them turning their 960-gram trail tire into a 1150-gram chunk monster. Alas, it's been a few months since the interaction took place and E13 continues to sell the TRS tires with pseudo-enduro casing (it's one thing if the V2 tire had bead area protection, but it doesn't). Then I stumbled across Black Friday sale on IRC Tanken. It was hard to pass up at $26 each, so I bought some to try. The supposed 2.3 mounted on a DT EX471 stretched to 2.4+", which I don't mind. And despite being sub-1000g, the casing is stiff enough to provide enough support for those tall corner knobs, which was my concern based on my experience with other tires in the past. I don't think the compound is as grippy as sticky offerings from other tire brands but I'm a fair weather rider and the combination of tall edgy knobs & supportive casing make the tire dig well into generally loose surface on my home trails. It probably has about 70 miles or so as pictured, and it is just starting to show signs of wear. My search is over, for now. I'm afraid IRC may discontinue its production in not so distant future, with its heavily discounted price ($30 after BF sale) and my ever-long shit luck. We shall see.
