I saw this in a pic on Vital during the 2012 season and did the same with my upper guide on my DH bike - definitely makes a difference!!!

Love the details on Stevies machine - there are so many little hacks!!!

Go to a fabric Shop (Haberdashery) and ask for adhesive velcro. Use the soft side.
Just ask to see a piece first to test how sticky it as - as I have gotten some before that is very easy to peel off, which is a pain.
The more adhesive the better, if you get the right one it can last ages!! I even used some on the inside of my swingarm.
It quietens down the chain quite a bit... and prevents damage.
