Mondraker Creates UCI Safety Check Bike 5

For 2022, Mondraker have partnered with the UCI to create the Summum ‘Maiden Run’ bike, which along with UCI technical delegate, Jorge Garcia, will certify and check the safety of each World Cup and World Championship downhill course before the participants take to the track.

Just as in motor racing, where a safety vehicle checks the track condition ahead of all competition, the UCI has introduced a pre-race, course check for 2022, which reflects the same philosophy. Jorge Garcia, the UCI Technical Delegate is responsible for inspecting and checking all aspects of the course to assess and highlight any changes or modifications needed well before the riders take to the track. This important role and check allows time for changes or adjustments to take place to the course if needed and is designed to improve rider safety on track.

Jorge García has the task of carrying out several descents on each of the scheduled courses for the World Cup and DH World championships before any rider starts the official training. Jorge García, UCI Technical Delegate commented, "Improving safety in a sport like DH is not easy. You must consider a lot of factors and variables. Even with a thousand eyes on it, walking the circuit 15 times in a week isn't enough. A jump that looks perfect, tested at the real speed the riders are going through, can turn into a very dangerous jump". That's how it really is, until it's tested in action you can't see where there are potentially dangerous spots.
