I saw the new C-dale Jekyll 29r last Sunday on a ride above Kernville CA. It looks beefy but super heavy. I'm happy I picked up my Yeti SB 5.5 Turq.

I don't really keep up on cannondale but that shock link looks way different that the one on their website?

So Clementz is using the enduro version of the etap rear mech.

Sorry but I don't get the hype surrounding etap. The pros in road racing don't like it at all. I wrench for a Continental Pro team so I know what I'm talking about.

In terms of shifting performance, etap is far far behind Campagnolo EPS or Shimano di2.

Let me explain why I'm not sold on etap. Yes it's wireless and it makes a time trial or triathlon built easier but ... E-tap in its current wireless form has an horrendous input lag. It doesn't shift as fast as a gear actuated drivetrain. Fly-by-wire drivetrains such as di2 or eps shift way faster than any e-tap.

And you have the freedom to tune di2 the way you want :
*Switch mapping
*Shifting speed,
*Semi-automatic burst or automatic jump when you hold the trigger
*fine gear tuning per cog
*you can mis-match di2 components to your like. A current di2 XT shifter, battery, wire or display unit will work with the updated version even if it is 12sp. First generation 10sp di2 Ultegra shifters work with current 11sp generation after a firmware update -can be done through your di2 charging unit-

With etap you have:
*input lag -some of our customers did not like it at all and went back to what they had before
*shifting performance is not as good as the cable actuated version
*on a worn out cog it shifts as bad as any cable derailleur. Something EPS or di2 do way better. If you can't tune your rear derailleur on a cable actuated/etap drivetrain because your cassette is worn out, you can with EPS or di2.

After almost 10 years working with di2 and almost 3 years with etap I can reasonably tell you that I don't understand the hype around the upcoming eagle etap. It will be crazy expensive -cost price of an di2 XT rear mech is the same as a mechanical XX1 Eagle- and it will have the same flaws than the road version.

You're welcome . Fixing and building crazy expensive road bikes for racers and dentists is what pay me bills, so I guess I know those electronic drivetrains well enough. And if I wasn't sold when it first came out in 2009, I am now! Plus di2 is the only solution for people with some hand related disability. You should have seen the face of the first vet I helped with di2.
You will always find people saying that they are perfectly happy with their etap on their bikes. That could be true. But most some of them can't tell the difference between shifting with etap, di2 or eps. Like some people can't tell the difference between a car with or without a common issue. Problem is that my job is to know and feel when something ain't right.

Problem is that race mechanic in XC mtb don't have enough experience with di2/eps. Race mechanics on road races know how to deal with it. Spot on cable management is easy to do with a fly-by-wire. That's why the 'wireless' is almost pure marketing. Sram could have done a wireless etap performing as well as a fly-by-wire. But it would have drained the battery way too fast
