The system is now rechargeable, which is a first for SRM. Previously, after about 1900 hours of use, you'd have to send it back for a new battery. The new lithium ion design gives about 300 hours of power per charge. They're also toying with the idea of hands free timing integration and GPS.
The use of systems like this brings some more science into racing, and it'll be interesting to see what teams use them this year. The Athertons have been using SRM's line already. Aaron Gwin also used it last year at the Pietermaritzburg World Cup. Because the data is stored on a computer, he now knows exactly how hard he has to train and can monitor his pre-season efforts leading up to the season and this year's World Champs. Neat stuff if you ask us!
