The Aurum was developed with the feedback and insight of Ben Reid and Dan Stanbridge from the Dirt Norco Race Team, as well as the Norco Factory Team, staff riders and the Norco R&D test team.

Cable routing on this bike is very clean.

Norco's "Gravity Tune" optimizes suspension kinematics and frame sizing for average rider height and weight in each frame size. By varying chainstay length, keeping it proportional to the front center length, Norco ensures consistent rider weight distribution over the wheels in each frame size.

The "Holloform" link arm is a rigid, one-piece link arm that provides two significant benefits - providing lateral support to the seatstays and also preventing bending forces from affecting the rear shock.

The A.R.T. Suspension system improves the wheel’s ability to travel rearward as it travels up, allowing the wheel to move out of the way of obstacles. When put in practice, this provides a smoother, faster ride over rough and varied terrain when at speed.

With 200mm of travel, the leverage ratio at the beginning of the shock stroke is relatively high, resulting in good small bump compliance. As the bike moves through its travel, the leverage ratio falls at a consistent rate which gives a very progressive feel with no mid stroke ‘wallowing’ or dead spots. It remains progressive right until the end of the stroke, giving it a bottomless feel.

We rode the Aurum for a full day in Whistler Bike Park. The bike is quiet and handles high-speed chatter very well, but tight turns seemed more difficult than bikes with less rearward wheel movement. It's a tradeoff. Sizing felt spot on, though we did have to raise the front end by dropping the stanchions in the fork clamps a bit to achieve a reasonable bar height.

The Syntace integrated derailleur hanger is reported to be stiffer and less prone to breakage than conventional derailleur hangers.

Slotted hardware means you only need one allen key to remove or tighten bolts.

Even with a rearward back wheel movement when compressed, the Aurum still jumps well and felt comfortable in the air. Lear Miller laid it flat the first time he left the ground.

The combination of the rearward axle path and careful placement of the rear brake caliper seemingly allowed the suspension to remain unaffected by braking forces throughout its travel. Suspension remained fully active suspension during braking.

Got mud clearance? The Aurum does.
