First Look: Cane Creek DB Coil Inline Shock and Lightweight Valt Spring

View as: Slideshow | One Page
Join us on the gondola as we discuss the new Cane Creek DB Coil IL.
The inline coil shock is intended for progressive bikes in the 130-160mm travel range, and can fit in tight linkages that many coil shocks can't. It's shown here on the 160mm Ghost FR AMR.
Adjustments on the twin-tube design include independent compression and rebound in two high-speed and four low-speed damping circuits.
The easy-to-reach climb switch lessens unwanted suspension motion when it's time to pedal. It adjusts both low-speed compression and low-speed rebound with the flip of a single lever.
If tuning a shock with this many adjustments seems like a big task, Cane Creek's new Dialed application is there to make life easier.
It's possible to keep tabs on shock settings and walk through the complete tuning process to make the shock suit your style and terrain.
It offers easy to follow suggestions to help take the mystery out of tuning your ride.
Also new is the lightweight Valt coil spring, which can drop an additional 50-211 grams of weight.
Combined with a Valt spring, the DB Coil IL is a remarkably light way to add the performance of a coil shock to your bike.
High quality steel allows for less material to be used in the coils, reducing weight. It fits a wide variety of coil shocks and comes in many sizes and spring rates.
It's a long way down from the Top of the World, and at the end of the run damper performance can suffer due to heat build-up.
Eliminating the air can reduces the service interval to every 100 hours, which is a ton of ride time.
Finally, a new sealing system is intended to improve long term reliability.

Description

It's a well known fact that coil shocks offer better small bump compliance, heat dissipation, and more linear spring action than air shocks, but they've always suffered in the weight game. Today Cane Creek is excited to introduce the DB Coil IL shock that promises to give all those advantages, drop a significant amount of weight, and fit more bikes while retaining several key adjustments. It's paired with the new lightweight Valt spring.
