my biggest complain about the old dorado was the shrinking air spring. basically after 2 bikepark days the fork would lose 2 cm of travel. the you would need to use the shock pump and to pull the fork back. depending on stem and handlebar combination the accesibilty of the air valve was difficult. actually, when using a 30 mm stem had to remove the stem and handlebar. that sucked.

the second complain was the pressure relase valve. I had the old one that came without these. after few bikepark days the pressure build up was noticeable and I had to unscrew the top cap to release presssure. this sucked big time. it took manitou several years to release the new caps with bleeding valve.

perormance wise no question. buttery smooth with endless feeling travel, the hydraulic bottom out is probably a part of this. service was easy and the fork needed little attention too if the stuff I mentioned above was sorted.


so for me the question is: has manitou learned from this, is this a user friendly fork or a super specialized recing product that needs constant tinkering?

Thank you for this. Exactly what I wanted to know. Will be keeping my Dorado for now, but come the next service interval it is time to switch.

I had a 2005 Giant DH Team that came with those blue 7" Dorados. Those forks were great. Rode them for many years without any issues. I plan on buying the new 37's for my next build.

I had this 7" blue one on a demo 8, awesome fork, i'd definitely put one on a big enduro bike!
