First Look - 2014 Kona Carbon Operator DH Prototype Frame 9

There has been much speculation and plenty of rumors floating around in regards to Kona releasing a carbon downhill frame. We can now confirm that Connor Fearon is in fact testing a prototype model at this weekend's race. Although we weren’t allowed to directly interview anyone from Kona, including Connor himself, about the prototype model, these few shots give you an idea of the sleek, new design that Kona is close to putting into production.

I can tell you that this thing is light, 16 kilograms with DH tubes and should get down to 15kg running a tubeless set-up. Suspension linkage is a little different to previous models, as is the shape of the frame towards the seat/top tube area has been changed.

Rear travel is set at 200mm, and the bike uses a carbon front end combined with aluminum stays. The head angle is 64-degrees. Combined with the integrated bump stops, internal or external cable routing is an option.

All in all this is one sleek, sexy looking frame that we can’t wait to provide you with more information on once we are given the all clear.
