Strong Rim,
Easy Tubeless setup,
One off design
There is well known idea within the mountain biking community that Crank Brothers makes parts for looks and not function. The Iodine wheels certainly take stunning looks and design to a level that no other wheel manufacturer has but has been plagued with bad reviews about faulty hub construction. The 2013 batch that I am riding seems to have addressed those issues and according to Crank Brothers, the 2013 wheel sets are a step forward and construction and durability. With a handful of rides into the season, I am happy to report that my Iodine 2 wheel set have performed without flaws and beat out my outgoing wheel set easily. Strength is exceptional with a non drilled rim and weight is kept to a minimum as well. There are lighter wheel sets for the money but keep in mind that you will not need to run a rim strip when converting to tubeless. These wheels are the easiest wheels to convert to tubeless and hold air well with my Maxxis tires. With the 2014 models getting lighter, wider, and stronger, and most importantly less expensive, I would not hesitate to recommend these wheels to anyone looking for a wheel upgrade.
