As a home mechanic, I’ve found myself in many situations where my T-handled hex wrench just isn’t able to get into that awkward enough space to be effective. It is these exact situations that made me wish I had a floating hex wrench set. This is what drew me to Pedro’s hex wrench set. After 3 months of use, these are my impressions:
Out of the Box:
First thing I noticed when pulling this Pedro’s set out of the box was how long the handles were on each wrench. I’m talking mega, jumbo, extra-long handles, which is a very nice thing to have compared to other hex sets you can get from the local hardware store.
In addition to the length, Pedro’s included a ball style hex on the end of each handle. The ball style hex is perfect for getting into bolts from a side angle, like threading on water bottle cages on a frame.
Lastly, Pedro’s includes a high quality plastic holder to holds each wrench very securely. Everyone who has ever worked with tools know that a tool will gladly disappear before, during, or after a project if it isn’t given a solid home. The plastic holder is so good, it even holds the smallest 1.5mm hex wrench, no problem.
This set Includes: 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, & 10mm sized hex wrenches.
Performance:
The finish on the Pedro’s hex wrench set is very good. After 3 months of almost daily use, they show no signs of major wear which really makes this set appealing. Pedro also made this set from heat-treated SNCM-V alloy steel that has shown excellent performance and durability. The tolerance on each wrench is very good too. I haven’t even come close to stripping out a single bolt yet. The extra-long handles allow for phenomenal leverage that my breaker bar can attach to when loosening even the most over-torqued bolts.
The piece that has really stood out to me has been the mighty 1.5mm. It’s so small but offers unbelievable performance. The three things I use this most for are tightening cassette rings together, the remote cable of my rear shock, and my front fork adjustment knobs. Even when I felt a bolt was on the limit of getting stripped out, the 1.5mm did its job and did it beautifully.
The only thing that could make them better is if they had magnetic tips. This would limit how many bolts I drop and lose in my garage as well as help in other areas like grabbing bearings during hub overhauls.
Bottom Line:
Pedro’s did an excellent job in designing this hex wrench set. They didn’t cut any corners and offered a long handle for each piece which really was a nice feature. Rounded ball style ends helps me get into any space I need and a short and durable opposite end allows me to get into bottle cage and brake lever areas with ease. The finish is great and the durability is top notch. Matched with a lifetime warranty, you really can’t go wrong with the Pedro’s hex wrench set. 5 star quality. 4 star performance (lacking magnetic tips). Overall rating: 4.5 stars.
