Initial Impressions
I learned to patch a tube back in scouts with the traditional sandpaper glue kit. Until recently, I kept using that same method. I saw these at a shop and got a kit since they were only a few dollars. I thought they sounded too easy and was skeptical of their durability. I used three of the sticker patches on some puncture holes on my commuter bike. I figured that if they would hold at 100psi, they would be reliable enough for mountain biking. I didn't want to switch and end up hiking out on a long ride. They worked really well and I have been using them ever since. I also appreciate how they help me minimize the number of tubes I have to go through. That is a big plus for the environment and my wallet.
Function
Using the patch is very simple. First, make sure the puncture area is clean and dry. Next, stick the patch on the puncture. That is it. It is incredibly easy to use, especially in comparison.
Durability
Those three patches I talked about above were put on a year and a half ago, and they are still holding. I have even cut one patch in half in a pinch with great results. I now have ditched the traditional sandpaper and glue kit all together and rely on this solely.
Everybody should have a package of these in their saddlebag or backpack. They're far faster than a traditional vulcanizing patch, and they last just as long. I have tried other brands of glueless patches with poor results (one brand almost left me stranded) but Park Tool's patches have never failed me. The box is tiny, and if you suffer multiple flats on the same ride, it could get you home. This patch kit is one of my essential items for any ride.
