This is another one of those tools that you don’t know you need until you need it, and once you have used it, you will never go back. The majority of chains out there use a master link or can be used with a master link, and in general this is a good thing. They are helpful when you need to easily remove or install a chain, and spare master links can be thrown in a pack or taped to the bike to fix a snapped chain.
With older chains 8, 9 or 10 speed they can usually be installed or removed with a bit of work, but if you are not careful you can bend or tweak a master link. Most 11 speed links I have used however are so tight that they are near impossible to remove by hand. This tool makes installing and removing master links a snap though! The price is reasonable and the time you save by not struggling with a link makes it totally worth it to me. If you are the fit it and forget it kind of person this might not be helpful, but if you remove/ install chains often or are a professional mechanic this tool makes the task so quick and simple. Tool is of the same quality as Park’s other offerings and is a great addition to the workbench of any bike mechanic.
I wanted to remove my chain, it was suggested to be by the internets that these would suffice. I purchased them with some money I had. It is a simple concept so I was not a surprise when they were able to remove the master link. I would suggest that if you are in the same predicament, get some. There are other ways to do this but just bite the bullet and get these, they are good, no regrets, yolo even.

Specifications
NOTE: The MLP-1.2 will not remove or install the style of master links with both pins attached to one plate and a side plate or spring clip that clips onto the pins. These are commonly found on older drivetrain systems or single speed bicycles. To remove these types of master links, use a needle nose pliers such as the Park Tool NP-6.
