If you title yourself as a home mechanic or would just like to do all simple bike services by yourself, the Park Tool CCP-22 is a true luxury to have. Trying to remove crankarms without them is nearly impossible. I’ve owned mine for just about 10 years and here are my impressions:
Construction:
When it comes to the design and materials used on the CCP-22, Park Tool didn’t cut any corners. The steel and welds offers all the strength you would need and the fine threads allow you to remove even the most difficult cranks arms.
Throw on a vinyl dipped handle and it’s as good as it gets. The handle is also slim enough to be able to slide on most breaker bars, just in case things get crazy and you need a little more leverage.
The CCP-22 also comes with a strong rotating tip system which provides smooth operation and long life. This tip can easily be replaced if it were to break or become damaged.
Versatility:
The CCP-22 fits all cranks using 22mm x 1 threads and square, tapered bottom bracket spindles which are found on bikes around 15-20 years old and most entry-level bikes. This tool also fits Power Spline cranks from SRAM using the 8mm thread bolt.
Tips for Use:
One of the biggest issues mechanics have with these is either cross threading the crankarm threads or pulling out these threads by not having the puller not threaded enough into the crankarm. The best thing you can do is unthread the outer piece of the puller and thread it on the crankarm. Then snug it on using a wrench so you know it’s all the way on there. If the threads of the crankarm somehow get cross-threaded, you really only have one chance to get the crankarm off so make sure the puller is as deep in there as possible. If the threads get pulled out, the crankarm will have to be sawed off.

Bottom Line:
This is a must have for any home mechanic. It’s put together very well and should last forever. Removing crankarms is nearly impossible without it. Be careful using it as it can be installed wrong. As long as you install it right, the crank puller will do it’s job every time.
