Stopping power for cheap
Good brake for the money when not paying the original MSRP
Rating:
The Good
The brakes have a lot of stopping power and great modulation. The build quality is good aside a minor problem with the brake cylinder which was solved due to a free recall.
The Bad
Some levers got stuck because of a faulty main brake cylinder for many owners, but were replaced due to a free recall from Sram which still replaces the whole levers for free.
Overall Review:

I got the full Guide R brake set nearly new for 70 bucks, but both levers were stuck. I bought them because the seller pointed out the free recall program from Sram. Therefore I brought the stuck Guide R levers to a bike shop nearby and received new Guide RS levers as a replacement in one week for free. Ive been using them since then and never had a problem.
later I purchased two more set of these brakes for even less money and had the levers replaced again. This led to a huge brake upgrade for some none-DH bikes having great 4 piston brakes now.

The servicing is kind of a pain in the ass and its not as easy as just dripping some oil into a Tektro brake. DOT fluid is nasty and the process has to be strictly followed. The good thing is you can use the same brake fluid that you use on your motorcycle or car. This comes at very low cost compared to the Shimano brake oil.
There are good video tutorials on Youtube and after some practice the whole fluid change is done in 10 minutes per brake. Also a change can occur every two years. This is also the same brake fluid change interval as for cars and motorcycles.

Definitely worth the money when you buy them cheap and get the levers still replaced by Sram.

Solid performance

The Good
Great brakes with good feel and plenty of power when needed and not overly grabby like some Shimano’s can feel.
The Bad
On really wet muddy rides the brake can feel a little sponge after, but a few blasts of disc brake cleaner to get the pistons moving again and they soon feel good.
Overall Review:

Great brake, great feel, great value.
