I’ve ridden over 150 miles on The Smash, here’s what stands out from my experience, YMMV. But first, here’s a little POV action:
You can browse myYouTube channel for other POV filmed on the Smash.
FAST! This bike really like to go fast, I can see why it's written on the top tube. It feels likes the bike generate speed by itself. It’s pleasure to ride hard and to attack even the mellowest trails. As GG puts it: Here at Guerrilla Gravity, we build highly-refined mountain bikes that are optimized for speed. I can only agree!
VERSATILE. I live in Quebec City Area and we’re blessed with a very broad spectrum of trails. The Smash handle almost everything with ease. DH runs at Mont-Sainte-Anne, XC rides at Vallée Bras-du-Nord, “enduro” trails at Sentiers du Moulin, old school tech rides in upper Lac Delage… The Smash can do it. The only place where I felt a bit out of place was on the rather primitive unofficial XC trails of Mont-Sainte-Anne.
EFFICIENT. It pedals really well, it climbs very well, it’s easy to get it up to speed, it’s easy to maintain speed, it’s a pleasure to ride. I’m beating all my climbing times on Strava, which were set on a 8000$ carbon bike.
Built mine with an MRP Ribbon fork (140 mm). It took a little while to bed in, but it feels now very controlled. As for the shocks, I have a SD Air and SD Coil. Both are very impressive. The difference between Crush and Plush is significant and useful, 2 bikes in one, especially with the luxury of having both coil and air shock. I was really worried about the overall length of the bike, but that turns out to be a non-issue. Yes, tight switchbacks are harder, but it’s mostly manageable. Long and slack does seem to work.
In short, it’s an awesome bike, a true all rounder.
