Suspension works effortlessly under you - it feels like (accelerates like) a hardtail, only without getting beat up in rough sections
Glues to switchbacks so well it's almost hard to believe
Climbs better than my road bike (how is this?)
New 2021 design is trick
My Vitus Sentier hardtail had a frame break so it's in the U.K. for a warranty fix. I couldn't stay off the trails any longer, so was very fortunate to find this bike at Bicycle Sports Shop here in Austin; as so many bikes, both online and on showroom floors, are simply sold out right now.
The EVO is exactly what it claims to be - a more trail focused XC racer. It feels like you're on works factory equipment, even though mine is the Comp version ($4,100). This thing is incredible. Razor sharp handling, light as a hardtail, and basically feels like a hardtail in that you don't get any squashy feeling / loss of acceleration. The pedals push the power to the rear wheel like a hardtail, only this bike can handle rough areas effortlessly. It's not suuuuper supple, eating up everything in its path like a full on trail rig, but it doesn't make you feel you're giving anything up either. What it does do, is offer speed unlike other trail bikes. The thing is incredibly quick, but also retains excellent, nimble handling in tight areas. Not to mention it's very light. There's simply nothing sluggish about this bike, it's a bullet and will keep you pushing your limits with a huge grin on your face.
Austin trails I ride consist of a lot of hardpack, flat singletrack which often plows into abrupt, rocky ascents and descents. Haul down the trail and hit an upcoming technical section with total confidence. Can't wait to get my hardtail back, which was my favorite bike ever, and compare it to what I have now in this Epic EVO. I have a feeling this new Specialized is, and will be, my favorite bike for many years to come.

To conquer rough trails as fast as humanly possible, the Epic EVO maintains ultra-efficient pedaling manners but trades the Brain of the Epic in favor of an Rx-tuned metric shock. A purpose-built link yields a 2.8:1 leverage ratio and milks bump-devouring performance from its 110-mm rear travel. 120mm forks with custom Rx-tuned valving complete EVO's balanced, trail-smart suspension.
Tune the ride of the Epic EVO to match your preferred handling characteristics with flip-chip simplicity that allows riders to steepen the EVO's headtube angle by half a degree while raising the bottom bracket height by 6mm.
