Got mine for $250 off Facebook Marketplace and that's about the max I'd pay for one. Honestly got it for the frame and wheels.
I enjoy more road and cross racing but wanted to give mountain biking another try! The Overdrive is absolutely enjoyable and good enough to find the trouble you seek. A joy to ride but I'm honestly not too great at technical descents, so when I wrecked on a rocky staircase, breaking off the derailleur I figured it was time!
This bike helped me improve singletrack skills well beyond where I was a year ago, without a doubt, but after a year of honest effort I just kept wanting a more stout gravel bike, opposed to a MTB...
I swapped the gawd-awful "suspension" fork for a rigid (Salsa Firestarter) fork, drop handlebars (FSA to match the current components), MicroSHIFT 2x8 "brifters" and switched to a set of tubeless 29x2.0 Maxxis Ikon tires. Replaced rear derailleur with a new one of the same (Sram X4) but upgraded to an 11-42t 8-speed cassette for a wider range. I will likely go to a 1x front crankset soon but am currently enjoying the 2x and leaving the small front ring simply unused. The smidge of weight and minor change in gear range will be an alright trade, when I get around to it but no hurry.
Yes the stock SL7 rims setup tubeless just fine with a tubeless compatible tire. They take a day or so, depending on your luck, but all is well with using 1" wide gorilla tape and Stan's sealant (got a deal) but might stick with Orange Seal as I have on other bikes and like it a little better.
All is well and I'm planning on riding the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route on this beast! As a beginner mountain bike, stock without my changes, this bike is still great for whatever you want to throw at it, until the time comes that you can invest in something better.
