First Look: RockShox Pike DJ 2

Today, RockShox introduces the all-new Pike DJ, an evolution of the very successful Pike fork built specifically for dirt jumping and slopestyle applications. Based on the same chassis as the Pike, the Pike DJ offers shorter travel and custom-tuned spring rates and compression damping curves to make it more suitable for high-flying acrobatics and rough landings. Available in 100mm or 140mm travel options, the fork looks to become the "ideal match for modern and progressive dirt jumping and slopestyle bikes."

Pike DJ Highlights

The Charger damper that plays a large part in the success of the Pike and more recently the new BoXXer is given a firmer compression tune in the Pike DJ, to help the fork hold the rider up on steep lips and take offs, with externally adjustable low-speed compression damping to allow the rider to further tune the fork to the course requirements. RockShox's "Rapid Recovery" rebound tune is responsible for keeping things quiet on landing, and comes with externally adjustable beginning stroke rebound to allow for individual fine tuning as well.

The air spring is more progressive than on the standard Pike, with the 100mm version providing the same feel as a standard Pike with 5 "Bottomless Tokens" installed. A further 3 tokens can be installed for riders looking for even more progressiveness.

The Pike DJ uses the same bottomless tokens as Pike and BoXXer to allow the rider to tune the spring rate.

Since it is based on the same chassis as Pike, the Pike DJ uses a 15mm Maxle Ultimate just like big brother. This seems to point to a further generalization expected of the 15mm front axle standard, if even the dirtjumpers are now expected to run it (many hubs will of course offer a conversion to 15mm axle via adapters). The steerer is tapered, and needless to say (still!), Pike DJ only comes in a 26" version.

The Pike DJ will be available in July, and will retail for 884$/€786 (MSRP).
