First Look: 2014 Giro Cipher Helmet, Chamber Mid, Jacket Mid & Terraduro Shoes 3

After introducing us to a slew of new products at Crankworx, it's clear that Giro intends to go big for 2014. Working with athletes like Aaron Gwin, Graham Agassiz, and Adam Craig, they've created a new full-face helmet and several shoes, taking their riders' input into account during the entire development process. Here's an overview of everything awesome:

2014 Giro Cipher Helmet

If we had to pinpoint one value-minded full-face that has lasted the test of time in both fashion and function, the iconic Giro Remedy would be high up on the list, if not at the top. For 2014, Giro is replacing the Remedy with the all-new Cipher. It packs a huge number of features and looks pretty snazzy as well. Luckily Giro has remained true to those Remedy roots by offering the new Cipher at just $200. It's a whole lot of helmet at that price point. Built to get rowdy in, the Cipher uses Vinyl Nitrile impact management technology, channeled brow ventilation, built-in speaker pockets and cord management for compatibility with TuneUps audio headphones, and a low-profile integrated mount for use with GoPro and Contour video camera systems.

Cipher Features

  • Fiberglass shell with EPS liner and Vinyl-Nitrile lined chin bar
  • Custom injected goggle port and neck roll gasket
  • ASTM DH and CPSC certified
  • Low-profile Integrated P.O.V. camera mount
  • Tool-free, bolt-on visor
  • 8 vents with internally channeled ventilation at browline
  • Emergency removable cheek pads with X-Static anti-microbial fibers
  • D-Ring closure system
  • Compatible with Giro TuneUps audio speakers; O-Snap cord management
  • 4 sizes (XS, S, M, L) to fit head sizes from 51 – 62cm circumference
  • Estimated weight: 1180 grams
  • MSRP: $200
  • Available: October 2013 at authorized Giro retail outlets worldwide

2014 Giro Chamber Mid and Jacket Mid Shoes

With continued input from Aaron Gwin and Graham Agassiz respectively, Giro's DH-inspired Chamber and freeride-inspired Jacket shoes are now available with the option of a mid top style, for additional coverage and support. Key features are shared with the original versions including Vibram rubber outsoles. MSRP $160 for the Chamber Mid, and $140 for the Jacket Mid.

Giro worked with Vibram to select compounds and tread patterns that address the varying demands of riders across the spectrum – from aggressive DH riding with flat pedals to the need for enduro riders to clip-out and hike or scramble on a variety of surfaces. The Chamber and Chamber Mid feature Vibram’s MegaGrip rubber compound for “stickiness” with durability that prevents premature breakdown of the sole pattern. The Jacket and Jacket Mid feature Vibram’s IdroGrip rubber compound for maximum “stickiness” in all conditions, including wet and slick terrain.

Watch Gwin get wild in the Chambers:

2014 Giro Terraduro Shoes

Entirely new for 2014 is the Terraduro clipless shoe. Geared towwards the rider that wants hike-abilty and comfort while maintaining a stiff, performance oriented sole, this shoe looks perfect for all day adventures. The Terraduro has a full interior shank for good power transfer, a breathable microfiber upper with micro ratcheting buckle closure, and an Aegis anti-microbial treated footbed that keeps odor and bacteria at bay. At an MSRP of $180, it sits very comfortably among its closest competitors.

Terraduro Features

  • Upper
    • High-quality, breathable microfiber with scuff guard reinforcement
    • Reinforced toe box with molded rubber cover
    • Strong and secure MR-2 ratcheting buckle closure (replaceable)
