A Look Inside the Minds of Red Bull Rampage Riders

What’s going on in a Red Bull Rampage rider’s head as they wait at the start, praying for the wind to die down? What do they think about while eating breakfast on finals day in the Utah desert? And how do you mentally reset when your bike takes a solo trip down a massive cliff during the first run? Thomas Genon, aka Tommy G, experienced an emotional rollercoaster at Red Bull Rampage 2024. In an exclusive chat with his roommate and videographer, Jules Langeard, Tommy opens up about what was running through his mind on the most important day of his year.

If there’s one thing that goes hand-in-hand, it’s Tommy G and Red Bull Rampage. This year marked the 31-year-old Belgian rider’s 12th consecutive appearance at the legendary freeride event. But even with over a decade of experience, nothing could have prepared him for the intense highs and lows of this year’s competition. It all started with a disastrous first run: Tommy took a tumble, and his GT Fury decided to finish the ride without him, tumbling off a cliff and coming to rest at the base of the mountain. Since Tommy hadn’t spend any time on his backup bike to dial it in for competition, he had no choice but to haul the Fury back up for his second run. But before that came hours of waiting. How do you pass that time? Overthink? Zone out? Or meticulously plan every move?

Whatever Tommy did, it paid off. His second run was a masterclass in resilience and focus, earning him an impressive 85.83 points and a well-deserved sixth-place finish. That result not only redeemed the day but also secured his spot at the 2025 Rampage event.

Tommy wasn’t navigating this wild journey alone. Along for the ride in Utah were his tight-knit crew: Jules Langeard, plus Louis Reboul and Paul Couderc. Together, they captured every moment – the nerves, the camaraderie, and the madness of Rampage life.

In his conversation with Jules, Tommy reflects on the mental and physical challenges of the event, the everyday grind behind the scenes, and even answers the burning questions fans always wonder, like: “How exactly do riders and bikes get to the start gate?”

Tommy G’s story isn’t just about a competition – it’s about grit, teamwork, and embracing the chaos of mountain biking’s most iconic event.
