Shred-Time at Bikepark Lienz plus finest single-track action at Bikepark Großglockner Resort

Races: 3rd stage of the auner Austrian Gravity Series 2024, Tyrolean State Championships, 20chocolate Downhill Cup

Just under three months after kicking off the season at Bikepark Lienz, the next big event is going down on Saturday, 27 July at the Hochstein, Lienz's local mountain. Following its launch in Slovenia, the auner Austrian Gravity Series 2024 moves to East Tyrol for its second stop. Having gained serious reputation in recent years, the Austrian downhill racing series is giving young rippers a shot to dive into downhill racing and rack up some competition experience. This year also marks the first-ever Tirol Downhill State Championship as well as the premiere of the 20chocolate Downhill Cup at Bikepark Lienz, which all take place at the same time. For those who crave more than just race action, East Tyrol’s second bike park at the base of Großglockner is the perfect alternative. Bikepark Großglockner Resort serves up challenging single tracks and epic mountain views.

East Tyrol is amped to host the auner Austrian Gravity Series once again at Bikepark Lienz. The shred goes down on the weekend of 27 July on the Alban Lakata Trail, a moderate line that spans two kilometers with a 400-meter elevation drop. About 200 riders are expected to send it in various categories, from U13 to Masters 2. After scoping out the lines on Thursday and Friday, the races take place on Saturday. With East Tyrol’s Mediterranean atmosphere, tunes, food and drinks, the stoke level will stay high beyond the races. Various music acts will keep the vibes up at the afterparty.

For the past few years, the auner Austrian Gravity Series has been a staple of the Austrian downhill scene. The series gives riders a chance to race without needing an annual race license – a day pass is all you need to get in on the action. This year, the series is also throwing down the Tyrol Downhill State Championships, a big move for the bike park. René Unterwurzacher, Chairman of Ride Free Osttirol, the cycling club heavily involved in developing Bikepark Lienz and its events, sees nothing but winners: "For us in East Tyrol, the auner Austrian Gravity Series is a major win. It's a platform for young riders to drop in and show their skills in a pro setup and get major props. It's epic for our local shred community and brings serious attention to our bike park in Lienz. We're stoked to have the tourism board and Lienzer Bergbahnen AG 100% behind the park – expansion plans are already locked in. Events like the auner Austrian Gravity Series and the Tyrol Downhill State Championships are boosting our profile big time."

And because the best things always come in threes, the 20chocolate Downhill Cup, Slovenia's national downhill racing series, is joining the party on that weekend, too. It's full throttle downhill action at Bikepark Lienz!

Bikepark Großglockner Resort: Single-tracks instead of downhill hustle

For anyone looking to escape the hype around Bikepark Lienz during race weekend, hit up Bikepark Großglockner Resort at the foot of Austria's highest peak, which kicked off its season at the end of June. The bike park offers challenging rides down action-packed single tracks and a fun jump line with breathtaking views of Austria's highest peaks. Standing out, the Adler Trail and Gornerwald Trail serve up six kilometers of gnarly single-track shredding from the gondola station at Cimaross down to Kals am Großglockner. The Adler Trail starts with epic panoramas of over sixty 3,000-meter peaks and mostly flowy sections down to the middle station, from where on the Gornerwald Trail turns up the heat with rugged sections, switchbacks, drops and gaps, demanding serious skills from experienced riders.
