ABUS Introduces the CliffHanger Helmet

ABUS set out to create a comfortable, lightweight, feature-packed, half-shell helmet designed specifically for all-mountain and enduro riders.

The CliffHanger is a deep-fitting half-shell-style helmet that gives that extra needed protection to the back of your head when riding on the trails.  The weight savings are largely attributed to the Acti-Cage reinforcement system integrated inside the EPS core.  This skeleton-like structure adds strength and stability so ABUS can use less material and create 14 massive vents for air circulation. Eight huge inlet vents located in the front and sides of the helmet bring in fresh cool air, while six rear exhaust vents draw out the heat.  And while the three-piece in-mold outer shell design allows for a variety of different colors and gives the CliffHanger a premium finish, it also contributes to weight savings and durability.

A properly fitting helmet is the safest, and one of the best reasons to buy a CliffHanger.  After years of success with Grand Tour-winning road helmets, ABUS incorporated the Zoom-Ace retention system into the CliffHanger.  This full circumference adjustment system conforms to the shape of your head, distributing the pressure evenly and with a twist of a dial so the helmet hovers evenly around your head, instead of sitting on top like many helmets.  The Zoom-Ace also adjusts vertically for a truly custom fit and allows for what ABUS calls the “Ponytail Outlet”, a much-appreciated feature for riders with long hair.  The final fitment comes from the new TriVider strap adjustment system that keeps straps from twisting and flapping in the wind and comfortably positions them around your ears.  And of course, it features a magnetic Fidlock clasp, making it fast and easy to buckle and unbuckle, even with gloves.

Besides safety, fit, and ventilation, the CliffHanger checks off the practical requirements as well. Its multi-height adjustable visor keeps the sunlight and tree branches out when in the down position, and allows for eyewear and goggle storage (GoggFit) when up.  The CliffHanger is compatible with lights and cameras.  It is QUIN compatible.  What is QUIN?  QUIN is a crash detection sensor that not only detects crashes but can send notifications including a GPS location when paired with your smartphone.

Team rider Richie Schley, who was instrumental in the creation of the CliffHanger, says: “We have been working on the CliffHanger helmet for three years now and I am totally stoked on how awesome it came out. Looks cool, is super lightweight, has great airflow, and is very comfortable. I think we totally nailed it with the colors as well."
