Practice has been in full swing at Red Bull Hardline, the world’s toughest downhill mountain bike race. Riders have been scoping out and sizing up features along the fearsome track in the Dyfi Valley.
In true Welsh style, the riders have seen everything from torrential rain to blue skies. Changing weather conditions have continued to make the already challenging course even tougher. Riders got to grips with deep drops, high speed descents and extreme technical lines, all in preparation for finals on Sunday.
Practice was cut short on Thursday due to high winds, which coincided with the sad news of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, which brought a temporary halt to proceedings. Because of this, the riders pushed to fit in as much time on the bike on Friday as possible.
Riders sessioned the lower section of the course, below the Road Gap, on Wednesday after the track walk and hit the upper section on Thursday, including the step-down and new on-off feature. They then pieced together larger sections of the track and Jackson Goldstone became the first rider so far to complete a top-to-bottom run through. Following an intense week of practice for the riders, Daryl Brown, George Brannigan, Jess Blewitt, Phil Atwill and Kaos Seagrave won’t ride qualification, mostly due to injury.
