Fontana Winter Series- Fontana, CA
Round #1 of the Fontana Winter series is in the books, and it was a successful weekend for the debut of the ODI / TREK Satellite Team. With several podium finishes, the season has started off on a positive note and we're looking forward to the rest of the year!
Saturday was the Super D race, as well as Downhill practice for the whole squad. Jon Buckell is our Super D specialist, and we were fortunate enough to get him a trick TREK Slash to shred up the course. The race consists of a 2 run format with a combined time being your overall finish. Buckell had a little trouble in his first run but finished the 2nd run strong for a 4th place overall finish on the day. The rest of the crew set out to practice and dial in the Downhill course for Sunday's race. The dusty, dry conditions were challenging everyone, but after a few runs the team seemed to be getting up to speed. Thanks to our Bontrager G4 tires, we were hooking up top to bottom! After a full day of practice the team was ready to roll for Sunday's race!
Sunday was Downhill Day! We all woke up to some treacherous wind conditions, and it was set to be a challenging day on the hill. Sunday morning practice all went to plan, it was time to race! Team Manager Rich Houseman was up first for his race run. In typical "Big House" fashion, he flowed the course, and put in a solid time for 13th place in the Pro Men class. Next up was Jon Buckell, and after a solid effort Saturday, Jon came back with another solid run ending up 9th in Pro Men for the day. Next up were our 4 JR's! Jason Schroeder was the first of the ODI / TREK crew to come down, and turned in an impressive 3rd place finish. Congrats to Jason for his first podium of the year. Next up was "Gnarly" Charlie Harrison, and he threw down a solid run for 8th overall. Logan Mulally was our next rider down, and with only his 2nd ever race at the infamous Fontucki, he came through with an impressive 6th place overall finish. Matt Branney rounded out the crew and made a strong showing in the ultra competitive Cat 1 18 & under class with a 14th overall finish.
