7 October - Alicante, Spain – Last summer, MS Mondraker rider Brook Macdonald suffered a heavy crash on one of the toughest tracks in the downhill calendar, fracturing two vertebrae in the process. After a long and hard-fought recovery, Brook is back on the bike one year later. He’s back on the pace too, with a solid 11th place finish at Crankworx Innsbruck Downhill ahead of his return to World Championship racing at Leogang this week.
It’s been an emotional journey, not just for Brook but for his teammates and the wider Mondraker family who were watching and willing him on to walk and ride again. As a symbol of their support for Brook over the past year and in the excitement building up to the DH World Champs in Leogang this weekend, Mondraker has presented Brook with a rather unique gift - a pair of crutches styled in Mondraker racing colours.
While everyone at Mondraker HQ is hoping the ‘Bulldog’ won’t ever need to ‘test ride’ this particular rig again, the crutches do come with a whole host of enhancements compared to the ‘stock’ model he used during his rehabilitation. The handles feature Renthal double lock-on grips for better control in technical conditions and when the going gets tough, the long, slack, and low ‘Forwalk Geometry’ adds some much-needed stability. The ‘stanchions’ are even ‘Kashima coated’!
Handing over the special gift to Brook virtually, Mondraker CEO Miguel Pina said “Since we first met Brook in 2012, we knew he was strong both physically and mentally. But he has shown us an amazing life lesson in overcoming this adversity. We often say that Mondraker is a family, we are a small company with passion and commitment, and it is in moments of adversity that family really matters. Once again we want to say thank you to Brook for teaching all of us about true strength, and wish him the best of luck for this racing season.”
The whole of the Mondraker team is overjoyed to see Brook back on his Summum bike and grateful that his return to the downhill scene has provided inspiration to them all. From the entire Mondraker family, welcome back Brook and happy shredding!
