Mondraker Introduces New Alloy Summum Downhill Bike

The World Cup-winning downhill bike gets a new Stealth Alloy 29er platform: 3 models with updated geometry, refined suspension kinematics and new forks & wheelsets.

Mondraker, the independent, specialist mountain bike brand from Spain, has launched its 2021 Summum with a new, World Cup racing-developed frameset shared across three superbly-specced models: Summum RR, Summum R and Summum.

The new design is a strong step forward from the previous World Cup-winning incarnation, and MS Mondraker’s pro riders have been an integral part of the testing, feedback and design process. With big wheels, new geometry and super responsive feel, they know it’s fast!

New Stealth Alloy Frame with Updated Forward Geometry

At the heart of the new Summum is the advanced frameset crafted from Mondraker’s Stealth Alloy. The strong, lightweight design brings to life the ‘real feel’ of high-grade alloy, creating a fast, active and natural riding experience on every section of the race track – technical, twisty or flat out airborne – for trusted feedback, maximum confidence and race-winning run times.

The 2021 Summum is larger, longer, and its new twist on the legendary Mondraker Forward Geometry means a longer reach across all four sizes. Matchless manufacturing craftsmanship brings the designs to an eye-catching reality with slimmer tube profiles (with a similar, elegant look to the Foxy and SuperFoxy enduro and super enduro bikes). Together they deliver better all-round riding balance and amazingly assured handling on race-pace descents.

New Wheel Sizes for the Fastest Runs

To get the best speeds on today’s demanding downhill runs, Mondraker have created different sizes of bikes and framesets for each Summum model. The Summum comes as a 27.5in or a 29in complete bike, the Summum R as a 29in bike, and the Summum RR also as a 29in bike. Plus, the Summum RR frameset-only is available in 27.5in, 29in and as an MX ‘mullet’ with 29 front and 27.5 rear wheels (now UCI legal), which some pro’s love for combining fast-rolling and snappy handling.

The top two models are specced with light, stiff, strong wheelsets from the MS Mondraker team partner e*thirteen, and the Summum features MDK-DP1 rims. All the new Summum models come with fast Michelin DH34 tires.

Cutting-Edge Suspension Refined and Optimized

Race-winning times demand suspension that will flatten out the big hits, so for the 2021 Summum, Mondraker has dialed in its winning Zero Suspension system, optimized to suit the new geometry and performance characteristics of the alloy material, enhanced with improved kinematics. All three models feature 200mm rear wheel travel but with a more progressive leverage ratio, generating a greater rising rate action.

Mondraker has also called in the very best component partners for the new Summum’s shocks and forks. At the front of the RR is the new Fox 40 29 FIT GRIP2 Factory fork with 203mm of Kashima-coated travel and a moto-inspired Grip damper; the R has Fox’s 40 29 FIT GRIP Performance unit; while on the Summum 29in and 27.5in models it’s the dependable RockShox Boxxer Select RC DebonAir with its 200mm of Charge RC-damped travel. At the rear, the Summum RR features the new Fox DHX2 Factory Shock; the R has the Fox DHX2 Performance Elite and the Summum is fitted with the Fox Van RC Performance.

Integral to the design and spec packages of the 2021 Summum models are the way they feel when being ridden hard. The MS Mondraker team – Laurie Greenland, Brook Macdonald, Eleonora Farina, Thibault Laly and Mike Jones – were involved in the testing and feedback process, working closely with Mondraker’s in-house R&D team and engineers. Prototypes were ridden by the pro’s on Europe’s toughest race tracks, as far back as August 2019, shortly after Laurie’s first World Cup victory at Val di Sole. Their feedback into the responsiveness of the alloy construction was crucial in pushing forward the design of the 2021 Summum Alloy range – and the frameset they love to race on is the same consumers can buy today.

The new 2021 Summum will be available to buy from regular Mondraker dealers. US pricing follows:

Summum 27.5/29 – $4,599 USD
Summum R 29 – $6,199 USD
Summum RR 29 – $8,199 USD
