In the depths of the valleys, hidden beneath a slew of enduro results and piles of COVID masks lie a sleeping beast. Downhill in the Rocky Mountains has a rich history with World Cup tracks, phenomenal athletes, and stellar events that date back to the origin of international competition in the sport. However, the F1 of mountain bike racing has laid dormant for the past decade in the region with unforeseen hardships and the lack of a sustainable series.
At Downhill Rockies we are here to awaken the beast, feed it regularly, and make sure it sticks around. In other words, DH is back!!! Our team is made up of previous and current competitors, super fans, and event experts that all have one thing in common...We love the sport and want to see it return and grow in a region that deserves it.
At this time, we have a two race series to offer riders and fans. We are working with several other parks to add another venue this year. Our intentions are to build a sustainable series. We are in no hurry and we are focused on the venues we currently have.
And what spectacular venues they are!
ANGEL FIRE
Angel Fire Resort in New Mexico has one of the fastest tracks in the nation. Average speeds can hit up to mach chicken and she's anything but smooth. Chunky and tech at the top, wide open with huge gaps at the bottom, something for everyone. In 2005, the UCI World Cup visited and put a stamp on the track and terrain for the rest of the world to take notice. We think everyone remembers the Earthed coverage and Minaar going galactic on the hip. We return to this legendary course on June 11th to get riders back between the tape. With Patrick West and his mountain staff, it's sure to be an event you don't want to miss.
PURGATORY
In the beginning there was Purg. The first UCI World Championship, the famous World Cup in 2001, the incredible Myles Rockwell designed course. What more can we say? They've made some changes and upgrades to this beauty, but the skeleton remains the same: steep and technical. We travel to Durango on August 12th for the first public downhill race on the World Cup track in what seems like centuries. Please join us for this monumental return to triumph for DH in Colorado. The two courses will pair with each other perfectly.
OUR GOAL
We want to provide racing to the community for years to come.
Our goal is to create events that have a solid relationship with the Rider, the Mountain Resort, and Downhill Rockies to ensure longevity in the series. Sending it down the heap without pre-riding works out sometimes, but it can end something incredible before it even begins. We care about the legacy of Downhill so we plan to take care in the construction of the series.
The Downhill Rockies staff has decades of race event experience and are ready to represent this amazing sport as best we can. We look forward to serving you premier Downhill Racing soon.
Early registration opens April 1st.
