BOS is a company whose suspension products have an almost Ferrari-like reputation - high-end, foreign, and ahead of the curve in many ways. After several years away, we're excited to see their return to North America thanks to Seven02 Distribution.
2014 product highlights include the Kirk air shock, Idylle RaRe Air DH fork, and a yet to be released DeVille AM fork.
Hot on the heals of the Void, BOS's first ever DH air shock, the Kirk is designed with the enduro crowd in mind. It's essentially a mini-Void, but has a lighter weight. Adjustments include high and low-speed compression, rebound, and an easy to flip lever that provides a pedaling platform. None of the BOS products fully lockout, but they do firm up a substantial amount, which allows the shock to absorb some bumps and conform to the terrain better while climbing.
This new, top of the line, 200mm Idylle RaRe Air downhill fork was built with the DH racer in mind. Reducing the weight was the main goal, through the use of Ti bolts, magnesium lowers, and reworked components, with an end result of 2850 grams (6.28-pounds). A change in the upper tubes reduced stiffness slightly, giving the fork more compliance. There's a new shim stack inside, which has a bit harder compression rate than the other Idylle models. The fork uses the same air cartridge as 2013 and an open bath cartridge, but sees less stiction for 2014 due to a few other changes. An air bleed screw on top of both 36mm diameter 7050 aluminium upper tubes, allows you to purge the system after a few hours of ride time for a smoother feeling fork. There's also a new BOS Idylle SC (single-crown) Air model available.
BOS is working on a new 140mm DeVille AM fork, which is said to be ~200 grams less than the current DeVille 140 model. Target weight is set at 1800 grams. Both 26-inch and 650B models will be available. The 650 version uses a different crown to give the fork the offset and clearance it needs for the larger wheel size. Axle wise, 20 and 15mm options are in the works. The BOS DeVille AM will be air sprung with a closed bath cartidge, featuring a three-way quick adjust compression system with 'Ride, Sport Ride, and Platform' modes. Both tapered and 1 1/8-inch options will be available. The entire BOS range uses an organic oil developed by BOS.
