12-Hour Downhill Mountain Bike Race Takes Winter Park Resort By Storm Once Again
WINTER PARK, CO – September 7, 2013 – This weekend Ryan Sutton from Crested Butte, CO proved that he was the most tenacious Enduro Mountain Bike (MTB) athlete of the day after completing 35 laps during the12-hour time limit at the fourth annual Red Bull Final Descent, a competition hosted at Winter Park Resort. As the sun rose on a beautiful Saturday Rocky Mountain morning, 100 downhill racers sprinted to their bikes to take on the grueling Trestle Mountain Bike Park and took on the challenge to see who could complete the most laps. Despite a brief lightning delay, riders continued to push their limits and fight fatigue as each hour ticked away.
In addition to Sutton’s win in the Men’s Pro Division, Jacqueline Thomas from Winter Park, Colorado, finished 32 laps to take home the victory in the Female Pro Division. Other category winners were:
- Solo Men’s Expert – Adam Hart - 33 Laps
- Solo Women’s Expert – Samantha Chaloupka – 29 Laps
- Duo Pro – Ninja Kitties – 35 Laps
- Duo Expert – Turin Bikes – 34 Laps
- Team Division – Fort Lewis College – 35 Laps
“This is the best race in Colorado. There was a baller DJ and super dialed course,” said Zach Graveson and Joe Crosby from 1st Place Team Fort Lewis College.
About Red Bull Final Descent
Red Bull Final Descent is the reincarnation of “The Burner,” a 12-hour endurance race held in past years at New Mexico’s Angel Fire Resort. The format of the event is simple—riders descend two trails throughout the day. After 12 full hours of riding, the finisher in each category with the most laps wins.
