Press Release

Anamoly MTB's Crowdfunded Flat Pedal Shoe is Back with a New 2.0 Sole Update - NOW ON INDIEGOGO! 3

Hey there folks, it's the Anamoly MTB team here and we're back after our original Kickstarter launch of The Mountain Bike Shoe Redefined late last year with some exciting new announcements!

First of all, during and after our original crowdfunding campaign launch, we received a ton of great comments and feedback from riders about what they feeling vs. were not feeling in all aspects of both the form and function of the shoes. We pride ourselves on being a rider driven brand, and by taking many of those comments to heart, we decided to make the ultimate do-it-all mountain bike shoe even better than before, so these updates include a more functional tread pattern, better look, and wider fit. Now that's refinement — or dare we say, RE-definement!

Secondly, we're now on Indiegogo InDemand and are still taking pre-orders while we're in the middle bringing our first production batch to life. This is where you'll find many more details regarding the full extent of all the updates we've made since our first hurrah on Kickstarter — thanks again to the seriously passionate riders within the mountain biking community, of course!

Now that that's out of the way, let the highlight roll begin in 3... 2... 1...!

Our full roster of 2022 colorways shown with our new and improved 2.0 sole update.

1.0 sole vs. 2.0 sole with new and improved form and function, based on direct feedback from our Kickstarter backers.

Due to popular demand, we've changed the old coin grip "dotty" pattern beneath the sole to a zonally engineered diamond tread. This new pattern is tightly spaced in the forefoot / pedal contact area to provide increased grip and surface area for the pedal pins to grab onto — thereby eliminating the inconvenient vibrational rattling experienced while riding over technical, chunky terrain caused by the large gaps in between the treads. The treads then becomes more aggressive in both the front of the toe as well as the rear heel section, for improved hike-a-bike or off bike hiking traction.

Combine that with our specially formulated, stickier-when-wet Hero Rubber™ compound — and riders everywhere are sure to experience an unbeatable level performance and superhero-like confidence both on and off the bike. This includes even the most unrelenting of rainy / muddy terrains and conditions (here's looking at you, Pacific Northwest and British Columbia).

But we didn't stop there, we also cleaned up the look of the toe area to create a more minimalist, modern looking shoe that's just as stylish off the bike as it is on it. Plus, an all-new raised lateral mudguard has been added to the outside of the forefoot area for added grip, longevity & protection against wear and tear, and CYA backup during aggressive riding and in worst case scenarios such as bails, or when the foot isn't perfectly planted over the pedal on steeper descents, rock gardens or jump sections.

The next most popular request was a wider fit, so we've widened up the toebox to a 1.5 E, or between an E and EE (2E) width. This has been one of our most popular requests, since many riders (especially those with larger feet) complain about toes being scrunched up and rubbing uncomfortably. Watch the video for the full explanation.

Since all of us in the MTB community geek out on some good tech, we've also decided to include a peak behind the hood of our R&D and product development process — including some never before seen imagery we haven't shared anywhere else:

Changes to the 2.0 wider sole design explained by our founder and chief designer, Chris Armstrong. The green foot-shaped forms, or "lasts" give the shoes their precise fit and internal volume, and have been widened to provide more room in the toe area.

We've gone out of our way to make these product improvements and to bring them to market before we commit to mass production, which has set us back several months on top of many other production challenges and delays due to Covid lock-downs in some parts of the world, as well as supply chain slowdowns.

The original insights after a bad crash experience at the Whistler Mountain Bike park, caused by shoes with an inferior quality rubber and leading to a mid-air pedal slip.

For those who haven't seen the Kickstarter and aren't familiar with our story, we're including some of the origin stories below from a crash in Whistler mountain bike park. This frustrating experience of not being able to find a pair of functional MTB shoes which were stylish at the same time lead our founder Chris Armstrong on a journey (call it an obsession) to design and build the ultimate mountain bike shoe. A stickier-when-wet rubber compound idea came when riding whistler and having the experience of riding tacky dirt aka. Hero Dirt, which becomes like velcro and improves handling performance while wet after a fresh rain.

The entire team at Anamoly MTB are excited to launch the mountain bike shoe redefined — a flat pedal shoe that not only looks great, but performs incredibly, and was created by riders, for riders. We’ve crafted our shoes from premium quality lightweight, waterproof & mud proof materials, and have hooked them up with a super sticky, high-friction rubber underneath that keeps your feet safely planted to your favorite flat pedals of choice.

Much of the mountain bike footwear available on the market today suffers from poor, inferior, or diminishing quality quality rubber — meaning the feet can easily become dismounted from the pedal pins in mid-air, which is especially dangerous in extremely rainy, muddy conditions. We’ve set out to create a special rubber formula that performs as it should, providing magnet-like traction to keep you solidly connected with your bike at all times; no matter what the conditions are like outside.

Inspired by Hero Dirt (the perfect consistency of wet dirt for riding) we spent two and a half years formulating our proprietary Hero Rubber™ compound. Hero Rubber™ is an insanely sticky rubber that not only performs like a champ in dry weather, but becomes stickier when wet, giving you peace of mind in even the wettest of riding conditions. This unique rubber formula also has an incredibly low rebound rate, helping to absorb impact on hard landings.

After almost 2 1/2 years in development and experimentation with multiple different formulas, we finally settled on a high-friction, energy dampening combination called Hero Rubber™. This proprietary rubber is specially formulated, one of a kind, and we've tested it in our own lab and have had professional riders put it through its paces out on the mountains.

Design inspiration originates from custom mountain bike frame protectors with special graphics. Goodbye, boring black or all-grey MTB shoes!

For the longest time, footwear in the mountain bike marketplace has been notoriously bland, monotonous, and restricted to a limited range of colors and styles. We asked ourselves the question, couldn’t there be a better way? Couldn’t we design footwear that’s as stylish as it is functional? By taking cues from custom mountain bike frame protectors and mudguards, as well as the ski & snowboard industry, we decided to add a little extra flavor by incorporating unique graphical hits throughout the shoe. This gives them a confidence-inspiring style that’s hard to miss out on your favorite trail or at the local bike park.

We've taken careful approach to product development with a level of refinement and sophistication not typically seen in the category — where no detail is too small to be overlooked. We've developed stringent quality standards with our manufacturing partners, and aim to have all of our shoes be technical masterpieces which riders can be truly proud to own and rock out on their favorite trails.

This process is truly a labor of love and there are many iterative steps along the way from initial idea sketch, to early functional prototype, to final pre-production samples and production product. Translating a great idea into an actual commercial product is where the magic happens, and where things can go awry if corners are cut along the way, or the process is rushed. It'd be easy to skimp here — but we truly believe that great products shine through in the details and execution, so we've taken our time to get things right.

The development process is where we fine-tune and dial-in all the details. There's a lot more work that goes on here than meets the eye!

*Note that some colorways are Stretch Goals and subject to change depending on our funding level successfully achieved.

Hawaiian print graphic insoles are guaranteed to turn up the stoke a notch. Mahalo, bruddah!

We're stoked to make the first crowdfunded shoe in history even better, and can't wait 'till riders get their feet in them for a chance to truly experience them for themselves. As a new and small brand, we truly couldn't have done this without the help and support of hundreds of great backers on Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and our fantastic production partners worldwide who have been with us at every step of the way as we strive to deliver the highest quality product on the market. Currently we're in the middle of mass production, with the full production cycle expected to take 3-4 months, with delivery now predicted for November - December 2022 timeframe.

Because we're still in the production phase with a few months before we actually ship product, we're still taking pre-orders on Indiegogo InDemand while we continue working hard with our manufacturing partners to bring our first production batch to life. So head on over if you want to check out the full scoop and be one of the first in the world to get your hands on a fresh pair at a special launch price of $104 (will retail for $140 MSRP) months before they officially ship!
