Vital Has a DEORE Group - Test Forthcoming
A complete DEORE group showed up just before launch and we've had a chance to take a quick look. Our initial impressions make us feel like this is a solid group, ready for the trails. There is generous use of metal here, no plastic derailleur bodies or otherwise dainty feeling parts could be found. To us, the inclusion of a four-piston brake is a clue as to Shimano's intentions here and we like that.
Time will tell once we get all these goodies mounted up to our bike and start clocking the miles. In the meantime, we happened to have some XTR and XT parts at the ready, along with a scale. For fun, here are some shots of the DEORE and XTR bits lined up.
Weight is one thing and for the most part we all know where the savings are made (in case the photos didn't spell it out.) What we are excited for is getting these parts on the trail, in particular, the new brakes. Top shelf stuff is nice and all but keeping the wallet heavy feels just as good to many mountain bikers. When the entire DEORE drivetrain will run you less than just a top-shelf cassette, it warrants an honest look.
In the meantime, head to bike.shimano.com for full details, including the 1x11 lineup.
