Today's 2021 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Downhill in Maribor race was won or lost in the blink of an eye as the fastest mountain bikers on the planet juggled the balance between success and failure. The days leading up to the race proved costly for many riders as injuries and crashes stacked up. The DNS and DNF list on yesterday's qualifying results sheet was deep. Racers that made it to today's final had to handle extremely dry and dusty conditions and a deteriorating track that made mistakes costly. Thankfully, weather was not a factor in the results, today. Final times were separated by fractions of a second, as both Junior Women and Junior Men victories were separated by less than one second. Myriam Nicole took the Elite Women's victory by 1.3 seconds over Eleonora Farina with current World Champ, Camille Balanche in 3rd, three seconds back. 3rd through 5th in Elite Men were separated by less than .2 seconds! Fastest qualifier, Loris Vergier, dropped in last with a flawless, composed and brilliant run to take the win over Thibaut Daprela by 1.7 seconds! Vergier, calm, composed. Daprela, wild and loose. What a race!
