Could be real fascinating, and frankly, I do not know how it would go. My experience in fantasy bikes vs fantasy football et at has been much different - as fantasy bikes for some reason is played much differently.
Wonder what 2025 would look like (for simplicity sakes) if there were 15 millionaires willing to draft 4 riders and pay them based on round drafted (then could structure bonuses).
I assume Bruni goes 1, maybe Brosnon 2, Pierron 3, goldstone 4....
Maybe I'll set up a google sheet if there are 15 people interested...
removed GM, Swapped out Dak for Goldstone...based on rankings last year. Six rider team. Snake Draft. Who do you like:
This is way tougher than I assumed it might be...and that is with Gwin sort of sandbagged deep. I still take Team 6 with Kolb, Craink, Gwin.
What if there was a women's category as well? 😘
I’d consider taking Jackson number one overall.
Risky, but would shake things up.
I’d argue he’s about the safest bet outside Loic but he’s a ~decade younger so a much better foundation to build from. Gotta risk it a little
I agree. Going off fantasy football - in a keeper league this would undoubtedly be the move.
I think you're both right, JG is a good bet for the overall if he comes back in good form, but for potential points Team 6 is where I'd put my money.
Fun concept.
Goldstone has to be #1 in a keeper.
Could you imagine if UCI dh got its head out of its ass and created teams of equal number riders?
It gives you a reason to root for everyone. It creates a reason to root for riders outside the very best; it gives teams a vested interest in developing riders.
What would be the benefit of doing it this style? And saying team 1, team 2, etc., DH racing is not a team sport per se, so there is hardly much benefit for the riders themselves to be on a good team (other than line spotting and other non tangible benefits) while there might be a benefit of bike choice. Is bike choice free for a given rider in the team? Does the team ride X frames and components?
Well - not sure, but since you asked...
I don't think there is any reason teammates would have to ride the same bikes. In many ways, they are not now anyway. Eitehr the better riders are getting the latest and greatest, see spesh; or teams are leaning in on the Uncaged model - YT oviously, but possibly a little Norco this year and definetly the BNC team. Still, on others, like FW, NEKO tests bikes while teammate rider proven models.
A sponsored team under the way I see it pays rider's salarery's etc, but the rider can use their prestige, connections, whatever to get their own bike and componenets whch likely would include bonuses and media money - adding to revenue streams. Also, all the above would reduce a lot of costs from bike brands.
None of the above would preclude, I supose, a team - say commencal - from owning a team and signng riders to bike contracts,
THe last benefit I see is the best for fans. Howver many teams there might ultimately be, it give fans a reason to root for more riders and make the entire field relevant from a points perspective. For example, if the team I root for has Davide Cappello on it, and I know he can't win...I'm watching his run with interest - now - hoping his run produces a top 40 result...to give my team points...In the system now, well, pretty sure I have never cared to watch a Cappello run, dud isn't winning...he's just a guy risking his life for to crack top 50 - with no one noticng. It's like in baseball...when your number 8 batter is up in the last inning. Suddenly, there is high rooting interest.
