www.bikemag.com is back and running and it's all crazy clickbaity, tiktoky, weird articles possibly driven by AI. i'd imagine they're trying to keep something "current" as existing content was legit, but this is bizarre.
from snowboarder mag, also under the men's journal / arena group umbrella. pouring one out for pat the eye bridges right now (even though he hasn't been there for years).
Tough to watch
Oh man, that's... just sad. Looks like they also own, POWDER, SURFER, and... no... no... Transworld Skateboarding?!?! Wtf is happening to this world! At least they haven't published Transworld yet... but https://www.surfer.com/ and https://www.powder.com/
mock ten is super fast
Shit posting on dying urls. the future of action sports media....
If a Breckie Hill tiktok is posted on Bike Mag we are all doomed.
As-opposed-to some rando mentioning this viral tiktoke'r on Vital? Are you here for bikes or to be on the Internet??
@Sesame Seed: everyone from Sacremento is like that
@owl-x: supersardonic speed
I saw that, I didn't think it was real. I knew Bike Mag was coming back. I think this may be just a placeholder while the new owners assemble it. They bought Powder and a few other names as well.
Artificial Idiot?
You all can laugh now, but I wouldn't want to bet against this actually working in the very near future. The second and third order consequences will be funny. IE, you won't be able to tell if someone actually did something or if AI just did it for them. Don't follow? Check this thread on Twitter. https://twitter.com/svpino/status/1635611742008147968?s=20
I'll finally be able to be the XTREME ATHLETE I always wanted.
Nothing is real.
Super stoked for the AI version of Palmers Peeves.
@jeff.brines - i'm with you. in plenty of cases, especially for subjects that don't need a really specific style that caters to an in-tune, educated audience, this will be the norm.
Kristin Butcher has been replaced by this avid surfer (born, raised, lives in Tennessee) who can't spell her name right.
Wow, BIKE Mag is actual garbage now. A shame. I really liked their "Bible of Bike Test"-video series. Used to watch it all the time.
I'm also one of the view readers who enjoyed what that team went on to do at BETA. Yes, I know, f*ck Outside, but at least they gave Palmer and Co. another chance.
The face appears AI generated as well. Those image algos are more advanced than the text processing ones currently.
This has already happened to CNET. AI generated SEO optimised articles.

The 'articles' on Surfer are just as bad. Her employers must be ok with her just churning out AI drivel (they can't be that stupid) as long as they are getting the clicks and search rankings. At least Cycling Tips V2.0 is using actual people to write features (even if they are'nt that good tbh).
"Amazing video shows biker speeding down steps like it's nothing" ...Because it is?
Never mock ten. You'll regret it.

30 minutes on the topic. Including ChatGPT strategically lying and employing people to solve CAPTCHAs for it.
