SHIMANO EP8 - won't turn on (new bike)

Hi everyone,

I just got delivery of a new GT AMP FORCE bike with Shimano EP8 motor, battery, and controls. It has the power button on the frame (Satelite I think its called)

I have charged the bike overnight until the amber light on the charger went off as per instructions. I pulled the battery out to double-check it's charged and it is.
When I press the POWER ON button it does only flick the green LED once or it comes on for one second and then dies off
I called a few bike shops and all booked for 3 weeks or more and do not have time for my bike. Also, the seller won't help as I took the bike away from the area.

Please if anyone has any advice would be great.

is there a display screen on the handlebar? (there should be). what, if any, error code is it throwing? ( https://www.shimano-steps.com/e-bikes/north-america/en/faq/troubleshoot…- ). a quick google has shown EP8 failures aren't exactly uncommon. i would try emailing shimano directly. if its new as you stated it should still be under warranty.

Check the batteries in the display unit.

Does the STEPS screen flash on for a nanosecond and switch off?

The symptoms you are describing is a cable short, the system will do what you mentioned.

Disconnect all cables from the display, and re-plug them in securely. If that fails check those thin cables have no freys and are all in tact, they are easily damaged.

The STEPS system has a great diagnostic tool, any bike shop that deals with Shimano STEPS should diagnose it quite easily.
