A breaking article published by Bicycle Retailer expresses concerns for a proposed plan to drill for oil beneath Moab Slickrock trails and the adjacent Sand Flats Recreation area.
"The Bureau of Land Management has received a nomination from the oil and gas industry to open a lease auction on two BLM land parcels that cover parts of the 10.5-mile trail and the adjacent Sand Flats Recreation Area. A public comment period opens Feb. 20." - BRAIN
Ashely Korenblat of Western Spirit and Outerbike is making noise and bringing this concerning topic to the mountain bike community's attention. There is a letter that companies can sign and submit to express opposition to this plan. Per the article, Ashley is quoted as saying, "We have a good chance of winning, but not if we do nothing: funny how that works."
Companies interested in making their voices heard are free to use the letter or reach out to Ashley directly at ashley@publiclandsolutions.org
The oil drilling is part of a new policy by the current presidential administration, allowing for new oil drilling and exploration under the "Energy Dominance" plan.
This is definitely a story worth following and immensely concerning to all outdoor enthusiasts and anybody that even remotely cares about the public's access to the outdoors. Here in Reno, there was a proposal from a developer to use BLM land for housing development. That land also contained a swath of outdoor recreation area. The public spoke up and shut the project down, promoting outdoor recreation and more intelligent city planning.

Do you remember the Sahara Club(mid to late 90’s)I think it was the editor of Dirt Bike mag that put it together as a slam to the Sierra Club.
just sayin...
BREAKING: Trump administration trying to open Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante to the dirty fuel industry while we're still fighting them in court! Help us stop the selloff of these iconic public lands with your emergency monthly gift!
DONATE MONTHLY >>
Supporter,
Donald Trump has shown us time and again — most notably during this week's impeachment acquittal — that he believes he is above the law.
Nowhere is that more obvious than the Trump administration's release of its final plans for opening hundreds of thousands of acres in the Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears National Monuments to dirty drilling and dangerous fracking — despite the court challenge still pending against the Trump administration's reduction of the monuments.
Supporter, make no mistake: while former Interior Secretary Ryan "Shrinky" Zinke is gone from the administration, his successor, former oil and gas lobbyist David Bernhardt, is just as potent a threat to our public lands. This is an all-hands-on-deck moment: Please, rush your emergency monthly gift to the Sierra Club now, before these magnificent national monuments are forever scarred by drills and fracking wells.
A refresher: In 2018, despite 2.8 million public comments opposing Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke's recommendations, Trump made the decision to shrink archaeologically-rich Grand Staircase-Escalante by more than half, and Bears Ears, famous for its cultural history and sweeping vistas, by 85% — opening these previously protected lands to mining and energy development.
Local Tribes and the Sierra Club, alongside other partners, filed suits challenging the Administration's authority to shrink and undo a monument. With this latest announcement, Bernhardt's Interior is clearly trying to open the floodgates to their Big Energy backers before a court can overturn these egregious rollbacks.
We need your help NOW to stop them. Please rush an emergency monthly gift to the Sierra Club today, before the drills and saws roll into these iconic landscapes.
We're also supporting a bill introduced by Arizona Rep. Ruben Gallego and New Mexico Rep. Deb Haaland that would restore and even expand Bears Ears National Monument protections, and bill that's been endorsed by the Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition and others.
Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears bring critical recreation and tourism dollars to its surrounding communities, preserve rich cultural histories, while sheltering precious wildlife from bald eagles to bighorn sheep. Please, help us stop the Trump administration's obsessive campaign to open these national treasures to coal and gas claims before it's too late.
With gratitude for your determination,
Michael Brune

Hey there! Thanks for sharing this article about the proposed plan to drill for oil beneath Moab Slickrock trails. I've been looking lately for some info on this topic!
As for me, it's always important to raise awareness and take action to protect our public lands and outdoor recreation areas. It's great to hear that the public spoke up and shut down the housing development proposal in Reno and that the drilling in the proposed two parcels has been suspended for now.
By the way, I'm new to this forum and stumbled upon your post while searching for similar information. While reading through the comments, I also came across some posts about Drilling Drawworks. Seems like there's a lot going on in the oil and gas industry lately.

They're doing this on another forum I'm on, it's pretty annoying..
What do you mean? I think a good discussion about [capture relevant topic] is a good thing. By the way, have you heard of my [sponsor's website/product]? It's really helped me [lose weight/ attract females/ earn money]. Don't look at my post count of 1; I'm just new here.
