Hey guys I am a new cat to the MTB world....I recently broke my back really bad racing moto so I've started riding the bikes and find that I love it just as much. My issue is that the new Giant hardtail that I've purchased along with a Contend road bike hurts like hell riding roots etc. I will make another purchase this weekend and would like to stay in the $1500 range if that's possible but I have no idea what's good and reliable vs crap. I don't care so much about weight as I do reliability. Thanks guys and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome!

Coming from the moto world, you'll know well just how much of a difference well tuned suspension and tires can make to your ride. The same is true on a mountain bike.

At $1,500 you're a bit limited, especially if you're wanting to buy new. Consumer-direct brands offer the best bang for your buck. YT, Commencal, and Canyon likely have some good options for you at reasonable prices.

You'll want to match your new bike to the terrain you're riding most, so the bikes I linked to may not be the best pick. Beyond being rooty, what are the trails like in your part of Texas?

thanks a lot man, roots obviously, rocks, and slick as snot when it's wet here in east Texas. Hills here aren't too bad but there are a few.....the bike at our local Giant dealer that I'm looking at is the Giant Trance. I've had good luck with the new Talon so I'm sure that bike would be fine but hoping for that bike that's new but left over and has been slashed about 50% lol.
thanks again

Since you are recovering from an injury I would reccomend plus size hardtail. They are great for taking the sting off roots and rocks as well as giving ample amounts of traction. You can easily find a mid range plus bike around the $1500 mark. Specialized makes one called the FUSE and there are a few different models to choose from in your price range. The Highest is $1500 and comes with a 1x11 drivetrain, dropper post and a manitou suspension fork. All of the parts on there are readily available and specialized is sold around the world. Good luck and hope you get all healed up!
