There's some promising things happening for mountain bikers close to Coal Country right now (finally) and I'd love to see the ball keep rolling.
Cave Run (Morehead KY), Sheltowee Trace (KY), Natural Bridge/Red River Gorge (KY), Sugarcamp Mountain (Prestonsburg KY), Breaks Interstate Park (VA), Flag Rock Area Trails ( Norton VA), Big South Fork (TN/KY), and others... All within a 4 hour drive from Cincinnati. There is so much opportunity in this area that gets overlooked.
Although I haven't had an opportunity to get my hands dirty and help out at Sugarcamp Mountain, I've witnessed one hell of a mountain bike community building in Prestonsburg KY right now. Politics aside, I don't see any reason why east KY can't see some level of success as Minnesota has had in Cuyuna.
I'm slowly (keyword being slowly) building up a website dedicated to Moto/OHV and MTB in the area, Ride Moonshine Country. I don't have a professional background in any of this, I just want to seek out hard-to-find trails and tell people about them. The goal is to get some positive conversation going that can keep this ball rolling.
