In this report by Al-Jazeera and Bloomberg, Giant Manufacturing Co. is now shifting its production of US-bound products back to Taiwan.

"Last year, I noticed that the era of Made In China and supplying globally is over," Tu said. The maker of mountain and racing bicycles closed one plant in China at the end of 2018 and shifted most U.S. orders out of the country. Giant announced last July it is setting up a factory in Hungary "as moving production close to your market is a trend."

Interestingly, the article above doesn't mention any plans to shift manufacturing to the Americas.

Trade wars shaking up the global economy. Leaving countries where uncertainty of costs is a good thing to manufacturers.

Short answer: Not likely.

There is a lot at play here, but one thing thing that is for certain is China is a manufacturing powerhouse. They aren't going to be shuttering these facilities anytime soon, tariffs or no tariffs.

To add, the likelihood of a trade deal in the next 12 months is still pretty high, and thereafter we may or may not have a new president that completely undoes all this.

My guess is it'll be a blip on the radar, with maybe some movement to Taiwan or similar. Overall however, we the bike riders will likely pay a little more in the near term with things going back to "normal", whatever that is, by 2021.

Side note, typing "2021" seems really futuristic. Where is my hover board?
