Is anyone here interested in hockey, or other types of ice skating? I guess I'm putting my bike away for the super cold months and taking up skating. Gonna buy a pair of ice skates and stick/pucks. I am lucky to live right by a rink and we have a team here (Tri-City Outlaws, AND Tri-City Americans). I know that some of you live in the hotter states/regions, so ice might be inaccessible. Ice skating is really fun, and a great exercise.

I must say that I feared the worst when I saw Colin McCarthy answering a Trailhead post. But I was pleasantly surprised. Thank You Colin. I've got no interest in Hockey myself. I much prefer to put on a couple of extra layers, including some nice warm gloves, and getting out there. Back when I lived in Portland, my housemate and I did a cold dry ride after culinary school. That night it snowed a good six inches of powder. The next day we did the exact same ride in the fresh show and it took almost exactly twice as long. A hard ride, but well worth it.

I prefer spades and spikes in the winter time. Lucky! Wish we had a team in our school. That be the coolest thing ever. I am going to build a rink in my backyard too.

Used to ride lot's of snowboard in the cold winter months since mountain biking in Quebec in the winter can be pretty hectic. Got sick of snowboarding maybe two years ago, I just don't feel the same kind of enjoyment as before when I board, even thought of starting skiing to change things up, but courses and gear cost alot, and I'm a student with a part-time job so I prefer keeping my money for things I'm passionate about (MTBikes).

As for hockey, always played outside with my little brother a lot when we we're younger. I remember we used to get up at 7h30 in the morning, eat breakfast, and got dressed to be the first people at the outdoor rink at around 8:15 in the morning haha. We would play till about Noon, go back home for lunch, and then went back around 1:30 till around 5:30. We we're fucking tough back then (that was when I was between 12 and 15 years old). Never played in a league before this year though. Started playing in a garage league once a week and can't get enough of it. It's nice to change things up a little in the winter. I LOVE biking, but playing hockey kind of helps me forget about the fact that it's below freezing almost every day now.

Never been snowboarding or skiing, I might go this year though. It's below freezing here most of the days too, so biking becomes miserable.

I still go once in a while, it is really fun, I just don't get as much enjoyment out of it as before. Still love to get up real early after a full night of snowing though to get first tracks at the local mountain. That never gets old.

What's funner? Skiing or snowboarding? Can't decide! I think skiing will be easier.

Couldn't say, only tried skiing once and since I had never skied before it wasn't the best of experiences.

It seems to me that both are just as expensive as mountain biking. Slightly less gear, but crazy lift fees. A pair of skates and a backyard rink sounds cheaper to me. How about some homemade Crashed Ice action in the colder than California reaches?

Red Bull Crashed Ice is awesome! Hockey gear is actually pretty expensive if you combine it all together. Sad.
