Can we please talk about Angel's insane huck to flat on the motorway?

Not a single mention of it on the live feed. I thought my eyes had deceived me, but no.

How did he hold onto this? Shocked

And yeah, it does look like a major overshoot. At the time I thought I saw it too, but announcers didn't then he gained in the split, so I figured I must have seen wrong. That plus his good split time makes me wonder about tailwind? Or maybe he figured something out about that particular jump. Would love to see a side view of that!

Good spot! Saw it too and I think it is a brilliant piece of commitement and riding. It is very cool

His wood entrance was also epic!

He mentioned it in some interviews that he overshot this table (but quite gracefully - without losing much time) . He said he was focused on getting as much speed as possible on the motorway in order to gap all the roots at this wood entrance.
I have never thought much of Angel but he is a real charger like Brook McDonald and I'm glad he finally steps on the podium

Great catch. Just rewatched it and that was sick. Bet he used every inch of his suspension. Impressive that he didn't lose much speed at all from landing flat, obviously absorbed it like a champ.

He mentioned in WynTV that he wasn't sure his ankles would hold up to the impact. Wild.

This, or the root gap, were easily some of the coolest things that happened in that race coverage.

In my viewing, it seemed like as the riders came down behind him, that he was faster than almost everyone on the virtual straight. Like that jumped helped him accelerate even more so.

What an animal.

Thanks for bringing this up Noah. Didn't get nearlllyyy the coverage it should've for such a massive send.

He also said that he scoped the roots on the entrance after he almost crashed, and then just pulled like hell in his race run and hoped he got over them. #fullCommit

Didn't Laurie mention to the other riders that he crashed doing a stupid manual during the live stream? I thought you could hear it when it chatted with the other guys in the finish area.

On the 3 UPHILL rollers after the tunnel!! He'd never done it in practice......he seemed pretty embarrassed (understandably). Seems like he's suffering from Luca Syndicate Syndrome a little.

Totally agree. No one else did the gap as well as him, everyone else who launched out that far nearly lost it.
It was how many years ago Gwin recruited him as an up and comer on YT? Great to see him on the podium after years of injury.

I believe I heard that he ran dry tires so that he could crush the top and make a cushion for himself as he went through the woods.

Matt Walker was also on drys per Wyn tv. I'm curious about the rest of the podium? Poor Greenland, bitter way to crash. Was Camille the only woman to have an entirely clean run? Maybe Louise Ferguson too, I'm not sure.

Warner said (in the live feed) that Camille was then only woman he saw/knew about (can't remember the exact wording) get a clean run.

(Isn't that also what happened at 2020 Worlds?).

I think that first clip is Neko. He said on the Downtime podcast that he also overshot that jump.

Angel doesn't come into that vid until 8:06 – where he looked incredibly smooth in the section that took down Daprela.

Angel DM'd me that he had GoPro footage, but it doesn't look like it's included in the vlog he just dropped on YouTube.

Did anyone see what Gwin was running for tires? I'm thinking he was on those Vee mud tires. He looked really smooth in the woods (for him), but to me it seemed like he wasn't carrying as much speed as normal on the motorway and flat bits where he wasn't pedaling.

Angel is a very talented rider, awesome to see him gaining some consistency in results/performance and hopefully no more injuries.

Angel's run was bonkers and you could really feel on the camera he was really fast (that huck hurt my ankles just watching !). Having seeing him several times riding in Vallnord, man he's smooth and stylish ! Looks so effortless...

On a side note, I also appreciated (like Rob and Claudio apparently ^^) the speedy manual from Antoine VIDAL before the wallride at what ? 65kmh ? That guy is definitely wild !! In the replay it's around 50min mark I think

Adrenaline, killer suspension, and the angle of the shot probably all contribute. I bet the spot where he landed was still at the very trailing end of the downhill portion of that feature. As long as he got his rear wheel on the ground early, it's more of a slap-down landing than a huge frame-breaker. Still gnarly, though.

Where he landed is slightly uphill. He just had enough speed and must be strong as hell.

Not sure but in one clip I saw (can't find it now but I think it was either Dialed or WynTV) he said he was on muds, would have preferred to be on an intermediate but that "they" didn't have one.

Then that shot angle must be working on me, too! Woohoo

It sure looks to my eyes like he is kissing the last part of downhill with his rear tire, and flat at best with his front. Maybe it's simply because he soaks it up so well...
