Bike upgrade

I've gotten back into biking about 3/4 yrs ago. I bought a hard tail just not to spend a lot since I wasn't sure about sticking with it. Well, I have. I've upgraded just about everything on my bike except the frame, cranks and stem. And brakes. I've been thinking about upgrading the frame now. I really don't have a need for two bikes and not sure I want to spend a couple thousand on a full suspension. My question is, is it a viable option to buy a full suspension frame and transfer all the components from my current bike? What are some of the more important items to focus on? As far as components fitting. I understand there's a lot to consider but just want to see the viability of it. Thanks in advance.

Sure, it's viable, Just make sure the same standards apply. You'll need the make sure you get a frame with the same size hub spacing, same BB configuration, etc.
Whether it's worth it, however.... ? It could be a huge headache.

Thanks for your time and reply. I figured there would be certain things that needed to be matched. I get the worth it vs headache argument too. Thanks

Honestly, as some who hates building custom bikes but always seems to end up doing it, it's can be very expensive. Ask yourself such questions as, will buying a new complete net me far better equipment for only a bit more than a frame? do the parts I have match the frame I want? If not you could be building a pretty awkward feeling bike. You also mentioned you hadn't yet upgraded your brakes. If you picked up a hard tail a few years ago and it was the type you felt many parts needed to be replaced, your brakes are holding you back as I type this. Good brakes make a great bike. And brakes might as well tack on at least 250$ for a cheap/good set. So now you're up whatever the cost of the frame is, brakes and whatever small bits you may run into, maybe even a shock depending on if the frame comes with one. The base model complete of whatever frame you want is likely the cost of the frame plus an extra 1000-1300$. For a whole bike with fresh parts.

A good example is the Commencal Meta. A Meta frame is around 1500$ CND with no shock. Add the shock and you're into $2000 CND for a Bomber CR coil. The Base Origin Meta is about $2999 CND. 1000$ is nothing to scoff at, but for sure compatibility, warranty, and lack of building over a bike headache can be long term. Even eventually upgrading your fork from your hardtail on the new bike will be about 800$ for a similar one to the meta.

Thanks for the response. I think I'm at the point of your first question. "will buying a new complete net me far better equipment for only a bit more than a frame?" Because I like the upgrades that I've done I was thinking that just upgrading the frame would be a good in between solution. I'd be willing to bet even if I found a frame, that would work, it's never as easy as remove and replace...

Thanks again for the help and your example was very clear and makes a lot of sense. I looked that bike up and it is very nice. If that's what you ride, it's very nice!!!
