Didn't Commencal said they were done with season bike collections and would only do bike special series whenever they pleased and until sold out and then more ? I think Cannondale also announced something similar with Covid happened but not sure if they really implemented it.
I think a bunch of companies are moving to that going forward. I know on all of Treks literature they've moved to a V.# kind of thing instead of year numbers so far, like the new Fuel EX is the Gen 6 and the new Domané is the Gen 3 I think.

Specialized Eliminator Grid Gravity T7/T9 is another good option for a heavy duty but still pedalable rear tire.
3rd'd. Sometimes, I feel like the dual compound actually grips a bit better too. Obviously, 3c maxx grip and maxx terra are going to grip better if they have a surface to dig into... but once things turn to silt, kitty litter or deep loose over hard, the DC treads/lugs seem to penetrate that stuff better to dig in.

Maybe it's me just justifying running them so that I get more then 3-4 weeks out of a rear tire...

So like a bonehead I forgot to get a screenshot from IG, but Fresh Paints of Whistler had shots of Chris Kovarik’s Intense DH prototype with IFR livery- could be confirmation of Dak saying the production frames would be announced soon!

thought they would also be testing a 6-bar HP layout? so sounds strange that there will be a new DH bike on sale soon.

In my experience, aside from absolutely terrible rubber, rubber only really matter when things get wet and hard surfaces, like rocks, roots and wood. I've had excellent results with DHF in 2C while really not expecting it, but only rode it in dry conditions in which it offered precise grip on hardpack and no problems either on dry roots and rocks. When things get soft and need the tire to dig in (powder, loam, mub, etc) thread pattern is the most important factor which usually means longer knobs, in that case a stiffer rubber can work better as the blocs won't deform as much as with soft rubber like 3C maxxgrip. So a Shorty with 2C would be great for summer for instance if the terrain you have is loose. I'd stay away from it when thing get wet tho, or maybe as a back tire.

Maxxis also supply there team riders with 2.5 DHR, so if they have the mould why not release them to the public?

I thought the same, but on the B Practice podcast, Dak essentially said they would be announcing the production DH soon.

Anyone seen this- DUAL Compound, DH Casing DHR II:

TB00368500

MSRP $80

https://shop.maxxis.com/collections/mountain/products/minion-dhr-ii?var…

That's a "bike park" spec Maxxis rolled out this summer. Longer wearing compound and a wire bead help bring the price down a bit. Mostly aimed at rental fleets or park rats trying to save a bit of cash.

DHR is available now but Assegai and DHF are on the way.

The DH34 Bike Park tire is $65 CAD, but I don't think it was ever in stock this summer. I've been trying to order a pair since March.

Are these new bike park DH tires 29" only?

I have been running the single compound DHF with wire bead (TB85976600 - only available in 27.5) for 60+ days at WBP over the last 3 seasons on the rear and it has held up incredibly well. It is sketchy in wet tech but paired with a Maxxgrip up front it is a decent compromise for those on the frugal side and is great on the jump lines regardless of conditions.

At the moment just 29, but at least the DHR in 27.5 is likely.

As for pricing, $80 is full MSRP, you should be able to find them at shops/online for less.

So like a bonehead I forgot to get a screenshot from IG, but Fresh Paints of Whistler had shots of Chris Kovarik’s Intense DH prototype with IFR livery- could be confirmation of Dak saying the production frames would be announced soon!

I think Kovarik has the older VPP layout mullet M279 prototype bike that IFR was testing prior to the iteration they used the later half of the 2022 season when Gwin/Dak were on the podium? He's had that custom painted one all season in Whistler, seems to alternate between it and his M29 (also with a sick custom paint job from Fresh Paints).

pretty sure that won‘t be a production bike. i guess they will be testing that teased 6-bar bike and then decide which finally direction the will go with the new DH-bike. so i guess a new production version won‘t come before 2024.

A severe lack of DH casing and DD casing dual compound tyres is completely baffling to me as they would make a great option for hard charging (heavy) riders that like to still pedal a lot. A 3C tyre in the rear usually gets chewed up mighty fast (DHR2s though surprisingly last quite a while even in 3C guise in the rear...).

I wanted that tire to work so bad for the rear, and it was excellent but disintegrated the T9 sideknobs in about 5 rides Sad

On the B Practice podcast Dak said the production frames are finalized and are still mid/high pivot with an idler ,lose the 'belly pan' and have a different rocker layout.

AG talked about future testing in some videos and/or interviews if i recall correctly plus didn't jeff steber tease a new project on instagram? maybe that HP-4bar bike they raced was so good that they will stick with that. but a 6-bar bike could be interesting.

Yes, there was the interview on the other site I believe where Jeff said during the 2022 season they were going to be testing and racing 2 different designs--one of which was a 6-bar. No surprise we didn't see the second frame surface.

I wonder how much of a gain a 6bar layout is actually compared to how much more complicated it is to design and make...
