The open idler is a new version for the team. Some of them had a changeable plate under for flex character.  I believe the open idler version has a softer feel, while the stock closed one would probably feel stiffer laterally.

Does Pivot have some kind of long-running competition amongst their designers to see how many times they can put their name on each bike model?
