Loic Bruni Has Complex Electronic MTB Suspension

Loic has five different buttons on his prototype Specialized Demo downhill bike and that doesn't factor in shifting. He, his mechanic Jack and Ohlins are all pretty tight-lipped about what the functions they serve, but today we got a bit of information from the current World Cup DH leader himself.

 

He confirms the buttons are not Skittles, he seemingly teases that they're for playing music and then says their function should be pretty easy to figure out. When asked if using them is confusing, he admits that it is not easy and there are risks associated with hitting the wrong button at the wrong time. Regardless of their function or trickiness in pressing, Loic's in the lead right now and that's really all that matters.

Buttons or not, he was winning well before them. If you saw his run yesterday, it wasn’t about the buttons!

When DH is literally the F1 of biking and people complain that "technology is cheating".

If the team is learning about speed gains through damping tweaks, then down the line, riders will end up with faster more fun bikes and the racing will get more intense.

Bring it on.

I'm still convinced these don't do anything and the Specialized/Ohlins engineers are just trying to let him feel like he has some agency in bike setup

I honestly think that the point has come when Loic should go and race the Electronic Bike Racing category - on his own.

If you can't beat your competitors without a device that's solely and exklusively available to you - what's the point in competing?

If a manufacturer creates something that's open to use for multiple of their sponsored athletes to be proven on the racetrack - that's progressing the sport.

Anything else is an unfair advantage - a.k.a. known as cheating.

Just sayin, ....

Huh?  You do realize that most of the top dudes in DH have parts on their bike that you can see (or internals you can’t) that aren’t available to everybody.  In MX if you are on a stock motor you will not win a pro race period.  In fact, the successful factory teams have different motors, not just maps, for high / low elevation tracks.  
 

to the more important point.  I have a pretty dialed dh rig and im fast expert pace (sometimes slow pro pace).  If I had loic’s buttons I would not be elite, I have too many other weaknesses as a rider for this to even matter when I line up.

Racing isnt about fair, racing is about being the fastest without breaking any rules, as with so many other sports. should top riders not be allowed to use prototype tires with proprietary rubber compounds? that happens in every cycling discipline at basically every uci race. Also,this is an advantage if used well, but not necessarily automatic speed.
