SPOTTED IN WHISTLER - Steven Ruud's Custom-Painted Specialized Demo 13

A Specialized Demo that looks like it's been baking in the desert sun for half a century caught our eye in Whistler.

The Whistler Bike Park lift line is a great place to hang out and see mountain bikes you may not normally get to view in the flesh. Sven Martin and Dan Hearn saw this custom-painted Specialized Demo strolling by and grabbed the man behind the project, Steve Ruud from San Francisco. The industrial design student figured he'd give a distressed paint job a go to make his bike standout. Spraying a few choice paint colors on the frame and selectively sanding away some spots left it looking like it's been sitting in the desert sun for half a century. A matte lacquer spray keeps the finish protected. -photos by Dan Hearn, interview by Sven Martin

Friend of Steven and Sierra Nevados Surf Club member, Ryan Condroshoff, let us know how to properly spell Steven's name and that Steven broke his rib yesterday, so give him a big shout out and follow @designed_mind on Instagram. Condro, we'll wire the money to your off-shore account for the beta.
