ROTOR's Innovative RVolver Hub and 2IN Power Meter

Some slick thinking from the Spanish crew at ROTOR.

Rotor RVolver Hubs

ROTOR, the innovative component company from Spain, showed us their RVolver hubs. The rear hub uses a unique and innovative engagement mechanism. By milling pawls cylindrically and mounting them on an angle, they achieved two purposes: they aligned forces with the spokes for strength and have reduced friction during coasting. When not under pedal load, the pawls disengage as the ratchet moves inboard. Start pedaling and the angle pulls the ratchet toward the pawls, engaging the hub. Depending on the configuration, they can get between 5 and 14 degrees of engagement.

No opportunity missed to trim some extra weight.
Circular grooves in the pawls allow rotation to reduce friction as they are engaged by the ratchet. A small hole is machined below the spring seat to prevent air from being trapped behind the cylindrical pawls.

The only two steel parts in the hub are the pawls and ratchet. All sealing done using silicone, instead of rubber, so they don’t need any grease. The RVolver hubs are 100% made in Madrid, come in all standard and boost sizes and configurations and roll into your hands for 499€ for the pair.

2IN MTB Power Meter

Pronounced “twin”, the Rotor 2IN power meter is dual-sided. Most power meters rely on readings from one crank arm, but the 2IN measures power, cadence, balance, torque effectiveness and pedal smoothness from both legs via ANT+ protocol and Bluetooth Smart. A combined left/right leg or single leg analysis is possible using their app. It’s the same technology used on ROTOR’s road power meters and features a 250 hour USB-chargeable battery. The 2IN power meter fits all current chainring and bottom brackets in 165, 170 and 175mm lengths. Weight is 695g without a chainring. 100% made in Madrid, Spain, for 1200€.
