Introducing the Easton EC90 XC Wheelset

Easton unveiled the EC90 XC wheelset today, which is a carbon fiber wheel designed for cross country racers and trail riders. At just 1,285 grams, they are the lightest UST compatible XC wheelset on the market. Even though they are incredibly light weight, they still manage to withstand a pretty impressive amount of abuse thanks to the use of Easton’s proprietary Armored Ballistic Composite and their acoustic tensioning and truing system.

The EC90 XC features a 19-mm internal rim width (and 24.7-mm external width) that will accommodate tires up to 2.3-inches wide, which suits it well to almost all XC and trail bike applications.


The EC90 XC wheel system spins on a set of proprietary Easton hubs featuring a CNC-machined hub shell, a 7050 aluminum cassette body, and an oversized 7050 hollow axle riding on premium grade, double sealed ceramic bearings. 


The XC-optimized hubs are mated to the carbon rims via sandblast gray Sapim straight-pull spokes threading into Easton’s patented double-threaded nipple system, eliminating the need for spoke holes in the rim bed.

Availability is May 1, 2011 and the wheels will retail for $2,500.
